An Hourglass

An hourglass measures the passage of an hour of time. Imagine as you age the two bulb sizes get smaller, the neck width increases and the material gets finer! Time would just fly by, right. I find myself wanting more time, especially when the sands of time slip through my fingers!

Sands of Time

Why was I in such a hurry to grow up as a kid! I find myself grasping for one more minute and looking to hoard another hour or two. I think to myself if I could just buy more time I could do XYZ. There are days I am not sure if I am watching the clock or the clock is watching me!

Clocks are everywhere! I think about the one at the gym that is SUPER BIG with OVERSIZED red numbers. I have next syndrome (i.e. where do I need to be next?, what is the next thing I need to do?, etc.)! I get more than a little panicked and stressed out when I am running late. The anger starts to set in and everyone is in my way. I am so OVER it most days!

How can this be a healthy let alone a happy way to live?

I find myself wanting more time, but I fear I would just be greedy and waste that extra time as quickly as possible!

I think of that movie In Time where people have been genetically engineered to be born with a digital clock, bearing 1 year of time on their forearm. At the age of 25 a person stops aging, but their clock begins counting down; when it reaches zero that person “times out”. Imagine thinking 74 or 85 years of age is considered young and in the prime of your life today! I hear the clock ticking . . . do clocks really tick anymore.

Are we time poor or time wealthy? Is time and currency one in the same?

Beautiful Sunrise

How do you make more time for yourself then?

I think about a mime in his or her imaginary box claiming his or her space within that imaginary box! I want to claim my own space for myself. It helps me center myself and become more aware and mindful. I know this is where I am right now and to connect with myself from the inside out!

I CRAVE certain things because I need to take the time for myself, my needs and my whole being! It certainly helps me align myself mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually!

  • Getting outside and being with nature.
  • Reading and writing (the physical of the book or pen in hand too!).
  • Being creative.

Being Creative – Capturing the Light (Photos by RSheridan)

Ask Yourself These 3 Questions:

  1. How Do You Spend Your Time?
  2. Do You Need More Space With Yourself?
  3. How Do You Create That Balance Between Time and Space For Yourself?

More than likely you will discover a few SURPRISES in your answers to these questions! Then you can go about making changes for the better. Remember to make small changes for the best results, especially in doing what works best for you and your needs!

Now I Am Thinking of the Tortoise and the Hare . . .

Stealing More Than Time

Cutting Back On

Technology Usage

Technology is a major aspect in living your life! It has its pros and cons as well as its time savers and time wasters. I find technology a little competitive at times from having the latest technologies to the number of friends you have on that one social media site!

How much time do you think you spend with technology and on social media sites? You might surprise even yourself if you track your usage! I want to be more mindful of my time as well as mindful of what makes me a happier being too.

I feel like my communication and socialization skills are slipping due to interacting more and more through technology! I NEED and CRAVE human interactions. I enjoy being able to stay connected through technology, however; I enjoy the face-to-face interactions too. I do not text right now because I want to connect as well as have others connect with me by calling. Nothing better than real communication, interaction and connection with others, especially a “Hello” and a “Goodbye” as well as a “Miss Ya” and a “Love Ya”!

I can honestly say that technology does help me in building relationships and networking with other people around the world! I just have to start asking other people for help and advice again instead of conducting a full out internet seach. I find technology helpful, but overwhelming in the amount of information available and what you can really trust too! I find myself reaching out to other people who have been through similar experiences when looking for help, advice or guidance lately.

I actually use an alarm clock to wake up in the morning! I think I am desensitized to the noises my smart phone makes to set the alarm clock feature on it. I am an adult and no longer require a stuffie to sleep with and I am not going to start sleeping with my cell phone either! Plus that alarm clock is enough tecnology in that living space.

I do not know about you, but I find myself more lost with the use of technology at times (i.e. GPS, smart phone, etc.)! I usually just try to figure it out.

I love to ESCAPE to the GREAT OUTDOORS when I need a break from the fast paced technological world! I do miss the boob tube at times, but the rest of the technology I can leave behind. When I am biking and hiking there is NO multi-tasking going on!

It is bad enough I have a camera stuck to my face! I am working on putting the camera down more. It is ALL about enjoying the moments, making memories and gaining life experiences!

Here’s To Putting Your Energies Into Yourself and Other People Instead of Draining Those Energies With Technology!!!

Days Are

Too Short

I still find each day too short

all the walks I want to take,

all the books I want to read,

and all the friends I want to see. ~John Burroughs

Remember to Take the Time to Do the Things You Enjoy – Even if it is for 5 Minutes!!!

How Do You Spend It?

The world is fast paced and crazy busy and hurry, hurry, hurry! I want and need that work/life balance because it does my body good. I want to focus in more and multi-task less as well as work on being more and doing less. I want to be time precious not time poor!

Getting My Sun On!

Think about the time you spend traveling to and from, waiting in lines, finding a parking space. etc!

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.

Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.

Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.

And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

They somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary. ~ Steve Jobs

My working environment baffles me some days! Quality and Quantity or Quality or Quantity. Please Pick One! You want me to speed up and work faster while paying attention to details, prioritizing my work and time and multi-tasking. Oh the Pressure, Tension and Stress! There are times where all I want to do is get lost in the busyness and hope 5 o’clock rolls around sooner than later.

Getting My Ducks in a Row!

I am working on what I can let go of when it comes to spending my time! I am trying to ask for help more instead of doing ALL of it myself. I am seeking out time for myself to recharge and reenergize throughout my day even if it is in 5 minute increments. I am becoming more aware of where I spend the majority of my time!

I find myself wanting to take on my day! I find myself being more motivated and productive throughout the day. I want to be in the present moment and focus on the task at hand. I want to achieve more by being not necessarily by doing and adding more to my to do list!

I enjoy getting my exercise on and staying active! It is my time to focus on me, my body and my health and wellness. I want to keep my sanity intact. I benefit in so many ways and reap the rewards when I make myself the #1 priority!

Here’s To Taking the Time To Do What You Love and What You Want to Do too!!!

Saying No

Respect Your Time & Energy

I know I am a people pleaser at times. You really have to figure out what you want to put your time and energy towards in your life. You may feel guilty in the beginning in saying no, but there are times where you need to do for you first. It does you good to say “no”!

I really want to put my time and energy towards what matters in my life! I have to value myself and one way to do this is by taking the time for myself. I have to respect (not sacrifice) my own needs. It is okay to be a little selfish at times!

I realize there are those things that you really do not want to do, but you have a choice when it comes to what you do about it! You can suck it up, do it and move on. You can ignore it and do what you want. Just make sure you make the choice!

I strongly believe that what you project from the inside out is what people really want from you and love you for that too! If you love and respect yourself you will add value to your life and the lives of the people you share your life with. Think about being equal with your family, friends and peers and you will be amazed what you attract in your life! Put yourself first and reap the many benefits in your life.

Make Yourself a Priority Every Day!!!

Spending Time

With Your Greatest Someone

I have talked about “me” time and going solo, but how about spending time with your greatest someone! That greatest someone that lifts you up and makes you feel great. I enjoy the quality time and just reconnnecting. Do not do enough of it though!

To My Greatest Someone (Photo by RSheridan)

I prefer spending time with my greatest someone in person, face-to-face. When that is not possible I try to remember to pick up the phone instead of shooting off a quick e-mail. I have been slacking a bit and have not been sending out old fashion cards or letters lately. I will have to remember to do that every so often.

Think about how you spend time with your greatest someone. As little distractions as possible; no televisions or technology. Really think about the last time you spent with your greatest someone and had a real conversation. Feels Great Right!

In some ways I think I have lost the art of having a real conversation by phone. I find myself sounding like a robot when I am having a phone conversation. Hello!, Yup, Yup, Yup, Goodbye! I remember the days when an hour would just fly by when having a conversation with a family member or friend or significant other.

Let’s take back the art of real conversation and really connect with another being; human that is!

Motivational Style

What Style(s) Are You???

I recently read an article about motivational styles. I took from this article 2 key points. #1 In knowing your motivational style(s) you can learn how to better motivate yourself. #2 Those time wasters you revert to when looking for motivation.

Find Your Motivation (Photo by RSheridan)

Also, the majority of you probably fall within more  than one style. I know I saw myself in at least 2 of the styles if not in all 4 of the styles. Of course I had to check this out because one of the motivational styles is “The Adventurer”!

The Motivational Styles

  • “The Adventurer” – Thrill Seeker
  • “The Doer” – Goal Setter
  • “The Lover” – People Person
  • “The Thinker” – The Learner

I know when I am looking for motivation I usually revert to my time wasters to act as a fill in until motivation and inspiration strike once again. You know what I am talking about!

My Time Wasters

  • “The Adventurer” in me wastes time on waiting for change; what is next.
  • “The Doer” in me wastes time on to-do-lists.
  • “The Lover” in me wastes time on people pleasing at times.
  • “The Thinker” in me wastes time on asking too many questions and not actively listening.

I am learning that it is okay to slow down and take the time to recharge and reenergize myself and for the better. I really need to break old habits or behaviors at times too. I am also learning to not put too much on my plate and to say “No!” when necessary. Really make time for yourself and make yourself first and not last at times. Really make connections and build healthy as well as supportive relationships.

I find myself motivated, inspired and energized to give that 100%+. I am learning to ask for help and support as well as just letting things go. I am also learning not to sweat the small things and celebrate more; reward myself. Really find my inner child and thrill seeker again!

Here’s to Looking at What You are Gaining INSTEAD of What You are Losing When it Comes to Being Motivated!!!
