Actively R&Ring

There is truly a balance when it comes to active R&R. You are actively seeking and setting R&R time for your whole, well being!

I think mental preparedness is just as important as physical preparedness! Especially in the 24-7 tech world we live in. Lately I think a good majority us are being challenged more mentally as well as physically these days. Hence the need to make that time to actively R&R!

How do you practice active R&R? How do you create the space to actively R&R?

You really have to do what makes sense and what works best for you and your whole, well being! Learning to invite R&R into your daily practice each and every day. Really try to not skip a day even if you can give yourself 5-to-15 minutes. It matters and is so worth it!

  • Pausing to think and just clear the mind.
  • Taking the time to tune into your emotions and feelings.
  • Slowing down to know what your whole being truly needs.
  • Reflecting and listening.
  • Easing the energies and shifting down a bit.
  • Grounding yourself to find some much needed balance and calm.
  • Embracing those lazier and maybe do nothing days.
  • Releasing and letting go (i.e. guilt, doing everything, etc.).

That mind body connection is strong right now! Everything from what is going on inside you to what is going on outside of you is connected in a major way right now!

You actively need to know what grounds you! Finding that balance and calm!

There has been a lot of being cooped up and that can instill bouts of boredom, frustration, etc. In a lot ways this has us putting our creative hats on to stay connected and engaged. The busyness and noise versus the ebb and flow. Becoming one with yourself in embracing the quiet and solitude.

It is okay to feel your emotions and thoughts. I think all of us experience great, energetic days to sluggish, mentally burned days. Mainlining the sugar and caffeine may not be the long-term answer when you need a boost of energy. Maybe it is actively relaxing and resting!

There is a lot of missing going on with your greatest someones, your sense of community and belonging, etc.  We are looking for the lightness and fulfillment again. Some of that comes from having no choice in having to slow down. To tune into what we need to be safe.

Sometimes you have that “aha” moment where what is truly bothering you comes to surface like a light bulb over your being! Once that happens then you can work out the solution to resolve it. In opening yourself up to tune into your whole being you start to bring clarity. That reflection can be so restorative, calming and freeing!

It is very much about inviting relaxation in! To feel versus think. To let go versus keeping it in. To receive versus give. Setting that intention to practice active R&R!

Discover that joy and find what make you happy for your whole, well being! How to comfort and sooth. How to open and expand when feeling constricted. How to self care and self love. To just go easier on yourself!

Practicing nourishing and nurturing!  Pause to breathe and reorient yourself. Cultivate to shift and grow. It connects your whole being mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Alignment

Brings Enlightenment!

That Mind Body Connection!

It is very much about the mind body connection! It took me some time to figure out that connection for my whole, well being. The mind and body as well as your heart and spirit should be connected as one!

I had an aha! moment recently in my practice! That when I am practicing I am tuning into my whole being. I am grounding my feet, engaging my core, aligning my whole body from head to toe, etc. I am learning more about myself too. Again everything is connected!

I have learned throughout my health and wellness practice that I truly needed to shift my mindset to find alignment and bring enlightenment to my whole, well being!

Practicing to Let Go . . .

  • How you respond/react to yourself as well as other people?
  • How you think and/or feel versus just responding/reacting?
  • How you tune into expansion versus contraction?

Think about the emotional connection you have with yourself. Think about your overall energy and how that affects pretty much everything you do. Think about how we feel about others and how others make us feel about ourselves.

I have been learning how to tune into my senses and spiritual side more to help reduce stress, anxiety and tension. I have found it is going within myself to become more aware and mindful. That awareness can be so opening and freeing!

How do you just let it go or at least let it be and maybe continue moving on!

Next time you feel stressed stand up and stand tall! Find your confident self. It will boost your mood, mind and your energies!

Practicing to Flow . . .

Think about shifting and balancing! Pausing to FULLY breathe (i.e. inhale/exhale), stretch, think, etc. When you are able to shift you feel more open, balanced and relaxed. Expansion allows for flow, good energies and maybe some much needed ease!

Think of change and transition as a reevaluation!

  • Positives vs. the negatives.
  • Strengths vs. the weaknesses.
  • Gifts vs. the limitations.

Think of it as reframing yourself with every moment, experience, etc!

  • Being open to opportunities.
  • Trying and practicing and trying some more.
  • Learning more about yourself and how you tick and what your traits and tendencies are.

I am discovering through my practice it has helped me change and transition as well as experience expansion and growth!

Practicing to Be . . .

Do you take the time to silence the not so good?
Or
Do you distract yourself from handling and dealing with it? Especially the not so good feelings we tell and talk to ourselves about.

Think about accepting all sides of yourself for a healthier relationship with yourself! Self love and self compassion. Self acceptance and being true to who you are. We are all multi-faceted and continuing to experience growth and life through our experiences!

In tuning into this you can work on the energies you put forth and putting your energies toward the good! I strongly believe that. I think it is human nature to have that need to change other people. However, in dealing with your own emotions and energies in time and with practice that change will come from within you!

Really tapping into your senses, gut, heart and mind! Again everything is connected!

Home Buddying

Home Sweeter

What have you been up to while at home?

The Natural

  • Living room, patio and/or backyard picnics. Is there anything better than picnic foods (i.e. cold fried chicken, bubbles, dessert, etc.). Make yourself comfy and ready to lazy about!
  • Finding some much needed zen or at least some R&R! Look for ways to unwind, calm down and find some quiet time. Yoga to meditation. Comfy pillows to cozy blankets. Curling up with a great book.
  • Spruce up or add the natural to you interior and exterior spaces. House plants to gardening. Photos to art. Pops of color to the sounds of nature.
  • Getting out into the Great Outdoors. Nature can be healing, freeing and relaxing.

I have seen a lot of home renovations going on! A new coat of paint, new fauna and flora, upping the patio scene, etc. Nothing better than a refresh to make the home front sweeter!

Gathering

  • Make a Meal Together. I really love this one. Pizza making from the dough to the fixins to baking and eating. Italian in making your own pasta or a lasagna. Making a taco bar. The possibilities are endless!
  • Set the Table. In making a meal together go ahead and set the table. Add the tablecloth, arrangements, candles, etc. Just have FUN with it!
  • Game Night is making a strong comeback!
  • A Bar Night In. I like this one and how much fun. Start with apps and drinks in the kitchen. Move to popcorn and candy in the living room. Take it outside. ‘Clink’ Cheers!!!
  • Spa Day/Night. Facial treatments to foot soaks to manis and pedis. Just give me my pajamas and I would be set!

Just doing away with technology for a good 15-to-30 minutes and maybe even an hour! With all of us living in the virtual sometimes you need to break away from it all. It is good to disconnect to recharge!

Creating

  • Crafting and Creating. Think outside the box and get the creative on for a change of pace.
  • Starting a new project to trying something NEW! It is important to have something to look forward to and to get excited about to break up the repeat and routine. Talk about motivation.
  • Journaling and Writing. Writers’ retreat with short stories. Reflection and Gratitude.
  • Reading. I think a good majority of us have a reading list.

I am sure some of you are wondering about the next real escape and maybe dare to start planning it out! From real travel to arm chair traveling to staycations what is not to love. There is nothing better than sharing experiences!

Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Relationships MATTER!

I recently read an article and it addressed relationship care. I thought to myself what is relationship care. Then I started thinking about how to connect during a pandemic. How technology connects us as well as can disconnect us. Really be with each other when face-to-face as well as virtually!

Think about the time you take to work, exercise, etc. Then think about the time you take with your greatest someones. Is there a good balance or could use a re-balance.

That meaningful and nurturing time with your greatest someones matters! I really believe it helps with wholeness and balance. It helps with your health and wellness too!

I remember growing up with my group of girls and we could not get enough time together. We spent all day together in school and for hours by phone in the evenings. If we could get together on the weekends for shopping or a movie we made it happen!

As an adult I have those few close relationships where you pick up right where you left off even if it has been days, weeks or months. Also, I tend to nourish and nurture those relationships that are healthy and positive. I really try to not take those relationships for granted either. Those relationships are precious, matter and are a true gift!

With your relationships you may see an improvement in the quality of your life as well as your health and wellness! Especially in communicating and engaging. In connecting and deepening those relationships. Making the time to continue to build, grow and expand those relationships!

That nurturing of our relationships helps us nourish ourselves and our well being as well as others and their well being! It is another form of self care. It can be enriching and boosting to your whole being!

We are humans that crave connection and engagement. We are humans that want to belong to something other than ourselves. We are social beings living in a tech world.

There is nothing better than making time to spend quality time with family and friends! You do not need to spend monies either. The simplest things are totally satisfying and make your day better. That is the love and support we all crave!

  • Gathering and sharing a meal.
  • Catching up, sharing and laughing.
  • Caring and supporting by being there, thinking about them, etc.
  • CELEBRATING!!!

That landscape has changed a bit with the pandemic. However, a lot of people are getting creative with the virtual and making time to gather and share!

We all do our best to live well! To be kind and generous. To be compassionate and care. To just be genuine and be who we are!

Boosting

Your Self Love and How You Feel About Yourself

Do you practice self love?

I do and my whole being likes a good pep talk! Tuning in to how your whole being feels. From your mental awareness to your mood to your body language. Your breathing and posture can tell you a lot about your current state of being too!

Do you know how amazing of a being you truly are! You have everything you need from within to handle life’s moments and life’s adventures, from the happiest to the most challenging. How you discover that is by listening to the inner you!

  • Your beliefs, values and virtues.
  • Your respect and trust.
  • Your intuition and wisdom.
  • Your gifts and talents.
  • Your gratitude and appreciation.

Remember to reflect on and focus in on nourishing and nurturing your whole being! How to feel better in your whole, well being. How to be the best you can be. Most of all love you for you!

Remember to learn and try new things! Be present to what you are truly experiencing. Tune into your mindful awareness and really focus in, especially on the here and now. Tap into that passion and empowerment as well as that motivation and drive. Practice and learn each and every day!

Sometimes I feel like I need to speed up and sometimes I feel like I need to slow down! I find I make better decisions and choices in slowing down. To think and to process. To quiet the noise to gain clarity. To become more aware and pay attention to what I need!

Think about pleasing yourself as well as forgiving yourself! Find that confidence to boost yourself and make your whole being feel its best. Find that trust to build yourself and engage your instincts. Discover your whys in your needs and do it for you!

Think about that internal validation from yourself versus the external validation from others! Own your decisions. Validate. Own your feelings and emotions. Empowerment. Own your passions and dreams. Owe it to yourself to be the true, real person that you are!

Remember to communicate and connect with yourself! To build. To cultivate. To challenge. To just be and show up for YOU!

A Different Type of Core

That Keeps You Healthy & Well

“An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away!” That is one way to get to the core of the matter. However, there is another core that matters. Your core!

The exercise studio I have been going to for two years now really opened my eyes and awareness to the function of my core.

***Please note I am not a doctor or health professional. I am writing about my personal experiences. Thank You!***

The Core

Your core is more than your abs and stomach. Your core matters to your strength and overall health and wellness. Your whole body is connected through your core.

Who knew there was so many layers as well as deep layers of the core. This blew my mind! In focusing on your core you perform movements more safely and effectively.

I have learned that your core does matter in ALL that you do!

The Pelvic Floor

I remember first starting out and the instructor talking about our pelvic floor. It was so nonchalant and just put out into the open. I was thinking to myself who talks about the functioning of one’s pelvic floor. I thought I was pretty open about my body until the pelvic floor was openly talked about!

A pelvic floor that is properly strengthened has health benefits. It helps with prevention, pain and discomfort and dysfunctions. It helps with your overall core strength and that helps your body move and be in motion, including improving your posture!

There are many aspects when it comes to being open about your body and being body aware! One is being comfortable with who you are and how you feel in your body!

Think about how you simply hold yourself up throughout the day!

Benefits

One benefit is more effective breathing! Really knowing how to inhale and exhale. Especially when engaging your core and connecting to the deep layers of the core. Breathing helps release stress and tension as well as clears your mind and body!

Stress affects your whole being! When to release, respond or react by tuning into your self awareness. Tapping into your self care tool kit to protect yourself. A great stress reliever as well as self care is how you use movement (i.e. standing, stretching, taking deep breathes, going for a walk, etc.)!

My biggest take away! Slowing down while practicing. In using control and a smaller range of motion your help yourself create stability and strength throughout your whole being. Injury prevention is key to being a healthy and well being too.

Learning Lessons

Lessons I Have Learned . . .

  • I breath better. I am learning how to maintain my stress level.
  • I have become more in tune to my whole being, especially in how my body moves. I decrease my range of motion and focus in on my core activation.
  • I have learned to tap into my body’s energy through practicing.
  • I create power for my whole being through my energies and increasing my strength and stamina.
  • I have learned how to use and engage my body in everything I do, especially posture, movement and motion.
  • I can create space and lengthen my whole body. I am practicing and learning how to lengthen properly and safely.
  • I am seeing results in my tone, movement, posture, etc.

(Photos by RSheridan)

My quality of life has changed for the better too! I am continuing to practice and learn . . . From core connection to strengthening the pelvic floor to breathing and everything in between!

Practicing Activity

One Step At A Time . . .

Here’s a challenge for you.

Do the thing you are most likely to procrastinate on and maybe place it in the first position to tackle for the day!

Especially if that thing is something you have put off and keep putting off! At times you feel so much better after tackling it. You may even feel a little lighter and freer too!

  • Experiment and explore.
  • Wonder and wander.
  • Learn and grow.
  • Create and color outside the lines.
  • Inspire and engage.
  • Movement and involvement.
  • Motivation and energy.

Comfort

Not Talked About Enough!

Do you ever crave comfort? I really hope you do!

I am not sure if comfort helps simplify or simplifying creates comfort!

  • How does comfort help you simplify?

For me simplicity can create clarity as well as connect me to my creative being too! There are times you need to clear your mind. There are times you need to clean and organize your being and the environment you live in. Think about how you can simplify throughout your day!

Bring more simplicity into each and every day! Think about what you want to create in your life and let it in!

  • How does comfort affect your whole, well being?
  • How does comfort connect you to your self, soul and spirit?

What do you do for yourself for self comfort? Knowing what brings you comfort is key to releasing and relaxing as well as recharging and restoring your whole being. What do you do for yourself to fill up the tank? From energizing to balancing to motivating to calming. Remember to really tap into that when you need it most!

  • How is your comfort sacred to you and your well being?

You have the choice in how you practice for you and your whole well being when it comes to supporting your health and wellness. You make the decision in what matters the most to you as well as your whole well being.

Remember to create that space for yourself! To honor yourself. To live with intention, meaning and purpose. To make time for your practice. That matters and is sacred to each and everyone of us too!

  • How does comfort provide self encouragement and self empowerment?

Do you want to drive or be driven when it comes to living life! Connecting to your heart and soul. Tuning into your intuition and instincts. Growing into the person you want to be. Being true to yourself!

How do you become one with yourself! I open up my posture, stand tall, feel my toes to my fingers and just deep breathe. It helps you envision and evoke your physical presence and your inner power. Think of yourself rooted from the ground on up!

  • How do you create the time and the space you need?

Living can be fast and busy. Pause and breathe. Living can be complicated and messy. Take a break to relax and rest.

Say What???

Relax Dude!

Being aware and making the time to be in the here and now! Knowing where you are and being in that moment. Experiencing, expanding, and growing!

  • Ignite your curiosity and spark your interests.
  • Discover your purpose in what drives you and your passions in what motivates you.
  • Try new things and continue to learn.
  • Give yourself more of what you love, especially joy and happiness!

Practicing Kindness

How DO You DO KIND To Your Whole Well Being

It is so IMPORTANT to practice kindness for yourself and your whole well being! You are also able to share that kindness with others too!

Think about the chances and opportunities given to you daily, weekly and/or monthly! Remember to acknowledge the wins. Remember to celebrate. It helps inspire and motivate you!

My Top 3

  • Spending quality time with my greatest someone(s). (Due to COVID a little different with social distancing, however; thank goodness for technology.)
  • Taking time for myself throughout the week for my overall health, exercise and wellness.
  • Bookending. Taking 30-minutes for myself at the start of the day and at the end of the day.

Bookending

Adding It To My Practice

I had that aha! moment! I get wrapped up in the needs throughout my work day that I forget to do for myself. I need to make time to nourish and nurture my whole well being!

I have recently added bookending to my daily practice. Basically for me it means taking 15-to-30 minutes for me, myself and I at the beginning as well as the end of my day. I can set an actionable plan for the day and then put a close to it at the end of my day. I usually end my day with a good book in my hands!

Bookending helps you focus by giving you clarity throughout the day! You may learn how to better develop your concentration. You may feel more productive and less stressed out. You may feel that you communicate and engage at a higher level. You may feel that you are paying attention more to what is good for you!

I try to have a pen and pad of paper at hand!

  • To write out a to do list.
  • To write down some reflections and maybe even frustrations.
  • To write down distractions and interruptions to remain focused on the task at hand.

It clears your mind and just gets rid of the clutter, noise, etc.!

Do you catch yourself ruminating? Then write it out to get it out of your head!

  • It can help create calm to settle things down.
  • It can help create balance to smooth things out.
  • It can help you use your time and energies more efficiently and effectively.

Talk about a freeing experience!

Remember to break up your day too!

  • Focus on the here and now.
  • Go for a walk, take a lunch break, etc.
  • Connect with others.
  • Get mindful and present.
  • Pausing, closing your eyes and just breathing.

Think about your sanctuary place and go there either visually or physically!

  • Your greatest someones.
  • Where you heart is.
  • A place of nourishment for you and your whole well being.
  • Your favorite place.

Really tune into what you bring into that space! What is speaking to you. Truly put yourself on silent mode and relax!
