How do you benefit your whole being on a daily basis? Living a lifestyle that devotes to the whole being; mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The greatest gift we can give ourselves is health! This results in wealth and abundance in every thing we do each and every day.

I do love going out to eat to try new places and taste new eats and drinks. I also love being waited on, taking a night off from cooking and not being on the cleanup crew.

  • Getting a massage every 4 weeks.

#4 – Favorite Green

  • Love me some greens!
  • Green spaces that provide a sense of community and to become one with my natural surroundings.
  • Gardening

  • Reading a good book.

  • Getting curious and learning.
  • Eating good (and of course healthy as possible) foods.
  • Being comfortable in my own skin by loving, caring and supporting my whole being.

  • Using my energies to do what is best for me and my whole being.
  • Getting my creative on.
  • Giving myself love, care and support by taking the time for my needs, craves, wants, desires, etc.

  • Sharing my talents and gifts with others, especially in being inspirational, giving motivation and being passionate.
  • Coming from a place of love and doing whatever it may be with a little heart.

Loving yourself comes from the inside! Building a solid foundation helps you to experience growth and gain experiences. Being passionate and doing what you love is so worth making the time to do more of it. That is a life of love and living it (more like conquering it) each and every day!

Reverting Back to Childhood

When It Comes to Food and Eating

Do you revert back to childhood as an adult when it comes to food and eating?

  • Drink your milk for healthy bones
  • Eat your veggies, especially your greens/spinach to grow big and strong.
  • Clean your plate or no dessert.
  • Do not play with your food, please eat it.

I remember moving out on my own and being so excited that I could eat dessert before dinner!

I have learned a few tricks over the years in creating a healthier lifestyle for myself.

  • I am listening to my body and what my body needs.
  • I take smaller portions or just leave food on my plate.
  • I love CRAVING foods and drinks!
  • If I sit while I eat, I tend to take my time to eat and enjoy the food and drink.
  • If I stand to eat, I eat way too fast, eat way too much and just give myself indigestion or a good case of the hiccups.
  • I am so guilty of still eating in front of the boob tube way more than I should.
  • I do not count calories.
  • I do not restrict; moderation and portion is key.
  • I do read nutritional labels and make healthier food choices.
  • I do find the good and the positive and the happiness in living my life.

The #1 thing that I can do for myself, my needs and my whole being is to do what works BEST for me! I am learning to be more mindful and more aware of my needs when it comes to health, wellness and fitness. I want to feel my BEST each and every day!

This includes my cravings and temptations for the sweet, salty and savory! My body is trying to tell me something and I need to figure it out. I am a grazer when I am bored. I want the sweet and the salty when I am stressed out. I crave protein when I am tired and low on energy. I think of my cravings as my body’s regulator in getting me balanced again! I am basically trying to dial into the information my body is sending out.

I cannot tolerate dairy all that well and I am so glad there is so many alternatives available now! I actually crave rich in calcium foods like salmon, dark greens and beans. I also try to eat whole foods, like fruits and veggies. I want to fuel and nourish myself and my body with quality, nutritious foods!

I am working on losing weight, but for me it is about nourishing as well as nurturing myself and my whole being! I want to eat better and make healthier choices. I want to take time for myself and get the rest and relaxtion I need. I want to play more and have fun in living my life!

Hydrate Yourself

Hydrate Your Body

Here comes the Fall and Winter months again and the need to stay hydrated for your overall health and wellness!

When I moved to the high mountain desert I got altitude sickness because was my body was adjusting to the change, but I also was not drinking enough water. Then you add in the dryness here. I wear moisturizer and sunscreen 365 here. I have to be hydrate smart as well as sun smart here.

Hydration is key to your body in being able to function efficiently and effectively! It cleanses your body of toxins and helps your immune system. It helps you maintain your energy. It helps keep your skin, hair and nails healthy and looking good.

I reach for the liquids when I feel hungry, tired or headachy. I have a water bottle with me at all times to stay hydrated throughout the day. There are so many alternatives than drinking tap water! You can infused water with fruits, veggies and herbs, like mint. You can add in a cup of tea.  Hot, cold or on ice. There is even a fridge out now with a sparkling water option!

I usually start stocking up on herbal teas and lemons in the Fall and Winter months! I want to keep my immunity strong and myself healthy. I also want to keep my hydration as natural as possible too.

I have learned that it is worth the investment in having different water bottles and carafes as well as maybe a filtered water system too. I am able to hydrate myself better with a squeeze water bottle while biking. I invested in a CamelBak with a water bladder for mountain hiking. There are so many options to explore in order to choose the one that works best for you and your needs!

Creating a Healthier Lifestyle

One Change At a Time

Do you take the time for yourself and your health and wellness? Do you use your leave time or let it go to waste?

Chronic health conditions are on the rise, which takes a toll on your overall health and wellness and costs money too! Prevention vs. Treatment. You have to STOP the go, go, go and running on E at times! Your body and mind craves downtime to unwind and unplug to recharge and reenergize itself. I do not deal well with multi-tasking to the Nth degree, being overscheduled and overwhelmed and being sleep deprived to the point of craving caffeine and sugar. No Thank You! I am one frustrated, cranky, irritable hot mess when that happens. I look for quiet and solitude to find my calm and collected self.

I have been on a journey of self over the past 3 years and I am learning about the following . . .

  • Making myself aware of proper nutrition and making healthier food choices.
  • Finding that balance between fitness and rest; getting that total body workout and getting proper rest.
  • Learning how to deal with stress and develop my overall coping skills.
  • Following my heart, listening to my inner voice and going with my gut.
  • Taking time for myself and being proactive with my overall health and wellness; nurture and nourish.
  • Developing social support and creating good relationships.
  • Being open and seeing the possibilities in CHANGE.

I realize there will be stress in my life, but I do not want to be on constant stress mode! I am learning to accept that and embrace that by developing better coping skills. I want to create a coping skills toolkit. I am working on being appreciative, grateful and mindful to myself and other people! I want to be in the present moment. I am tapping into what motivates and inspires me too! I want to have drive and be passionate.

Another aspect in creating a coping skills toolkit is to really develop your social support and create good relationships! It is like a boost to your immunity as well as good for your heart, body and spirit. Healthy relationships = Healthier You! I have the ability to love, nurture and nourish myself as well as share it, give it and receive it. I love good interactions, connections and communications with my greatest someones!

I still struggle with change, especially BIG change in my life! I am trying to be more open and see the good possibilities in change. It certainly is not easy and requires a little hard work at times, but sometimes it is so worth it. Slow and steady wins the race, right! Really take your time and make the commitment to change for the better and to be the best version of you.

I feel the best Rx for overall health and wellness is getting your green on! I love to experience green spaces, gardens, nature, and the great outdoors. I also enjoy eating my greens too. I strongly believe in getting your green on every day even if it is only for 5 minutes!

Styling Your Life

For You & Your Needs

How do you style your life for you and your needs?

I have experienced the human yo-yo over the past ten years; lose weight, gain the weight back plus 10 extra pounds! I have been that crazed woman at the gym trying the most current trend in exercising to lose 30 pounds in a month. I have tried to become the human rabbit by eating something green every day even when I started turning green in the process! I have not tried it ALL, but I put a pretty good dent in it over the years. Wow – What have I been thinking and doing to MYSELF!

I have learned I need to style my life for me and my needs! I just want to be proactive with my health and live a healthier lifestyle. Why is that so dang hard to learn! I enjoy being active as well as eating and just want to have a healthier perspective for myself.

I am learning to exercise again and I am learning good habits, like the importance of breathing! I am still a work in progress when it comes to handling STRESS in my life. DO what makes sense to you & your body! You live in your body every day and no one else does. DO what makes you feel GOOD!

Old Habits Do Die Hard

I am perfectly fine in derailing myself when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle. I have plenty of excuses lined up and ready to go. I try really hard to stay on track. However, I am human and have had my fair share of lapses. Old Habits Do Die Hard!

You are your worst enemy when it comes to sabatoging your healthier lifestyle. Being supportive to yourself can be a tricky line to toe at times. I have to find my own balance and sense of self-control when it comes to making better choices. Sometimes sabatoge sets in.

My Top 3 Sabatoges

  1. Cravings
  2. Overeating
  3. Negative Self-Talk 0r Unsolicited Advice

I am a foodie and enjoy eating! You can have what you crave in moderation. I love to share with others to avoid overeating, especially a sweet treat. Restrictions do not work for me because that is when the sabatoge really kicks in!

I struggle with being told how to eat, especially when negative self-talk or unsolicited advice comes with it! I am receptive to reminders, but negative comments from myself or another person is not a good thing. I realize those comments are meant to be helpful and supportive, but approach it in a positive way. I revert back to childhood and I am an adult.

I am still figuring it out, this whole living a healthier lifestyle. I will be the first to tell you I do not have all the answers. I have my lapses, struggles and setbacks when it comes to making better choices. I have my excuses, complaints and negative self-talk to keep me company on this journey. It is a Lifestyle Change & Change is Hard & GOOD!

Here is What I DO Know:

  • I do know I am doing it to live longer and hopefully with minimal aches and pains.
  • I do know I am doing it because of a family history of heart disease.
  • I do know I want to be strong, sexy and certainly look younger than my actual age.
  • I do know I have been given this one body and am going to love it and give it my full attention.
  • I do know I want to live my life to the fullest and have fun doing it.

Embrace Your Assets

You Sexy Thing!!!

How do you embrace your body, especially during a time of transition?

I am in the process of getting healthier and it has its share of challenges and rewards. I am watching what I eat, exercise 3 to 4 days a week and working on the mind and spirit too. My body has been experiencing changes throughout this process and my lumps and bumps seem to be moving around as I lose weight, tone and shape up. I am embracing what I have and rocking it!

When I was back in my mid-20s I tried just about every magic trick to stay a certain size. I was miserable, cranky, hungry, and NOT HEALTHY AT ALL! My main goal right now is to be a HEALTHIER VERSION OF ME! I am GETTING REAL, CHALLENGING MY BODY & BOOSTING MY SELF CONFIDENCE right now, present day!

GET REAL

Jeans

Find a pair of jeans that you love to wear and rock it! Check the rise and length, so you can wear with multiple tops and shoes. I am into the dark wash jean right now, which so enhances my figure. I use to not be a jean wearer until I met Gloria and boy does her jeans embrace my every curve and asset!

Shoes

Go Ahead and Show a Little Toe Cleavage – ha! Find a pair that is Fun and Flirty. Find a pair that is Sexy and Sky High. Find a pair that Grounds you to the Earth. Whatever your style JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!

Workout Clothes

Ditch the Baggy T-shirt and Sweat Pants! I love to add a pop of color to my workout clothes. You do not have to spend a lot to make yourself look “HOT” when working out. I just feel better when my clothes work with me and not against me when getting my sweat on!

CHALLENGE YOUR BODY

Eat Right

Everything in Moderation, Right! I can say I am a water drinker now and my body loves me for that. I love playing with my food and experimenting with cooking. In eating right your body, mind and spirit will just come alive!

Exercise

Sorry, but this is a Necessary Evil! You have to get that heart rate up and strength train to protect against muscle and bone loss. I love the high and the extra stamina exercising gives me!

Be an Active Person

Get Moving and Have Fun! Take the stairs, park a little further out, go for a stroll. This goes for stimulating the mind and the spirit too. Just Make It a Habit!

Make a Concious Effort to Love Your Body (no loathing or hating allowed)! When you feel great in your body nothing else really matters except living life. You will have more attention than you know what to do with – ha!

I do not care for the “D” word! Instead I think in terms of changing one’s lifestyle and selecting healthier food choices. We all DESERVE to indulge and treat ourselves! Have FUN trying new foods and new ways to cook foods.

Simply EXERCISE makes your body and mind strong as well as gets the HEART pumping. There are multiple ways to get your exercise on and have fun doing it!

Put that STRESS on the Down Low. There are times where you are in control and other times where you just might have to ROLL with it.

Learn something NEW every day! Keeps the mind sharp and the spirit active. I love to learn and read as well as try new things and challenge myself.

Here’s the one I LOVE – be SOCIALLY active!!! Does this mean that you have to turn yourself into the Social Butterfly, certainly not. However, get out there and get involved in LIFE – so many wonderful opportunities out there if you are open to them.

Another FAVORITE one – Explore & Adventure Extensively! This truly can CHALLENGE your body, mind and spirit. We are curious by nature, so why not put it to good use!
