Health & Wellness

What speaks to you when it comes to your health and wellness?

My Top 3

  • The Natural
  • Going on an Adventure
  • Relaxation & Rest

The Natural

You can bring nature inside or head out into the Great Outdoors!  The fauna and flora. The green spaces to the mountains to the sandy beaches to everything in between. The fresh air!

There is just something about natural light that brightens your whole, well being! The sunlight. The warmth. The brain gets a boost and the mood gets a lift!

Do you ever stop and just take in all the colors of the fruits and veggies available? The freshness and ripeness of the fruits and veggies in season. Wandering through an orchard or a pick your own garden. The creativity and experimentation that comes from trying, preparing, cooking, and tasting fruits and veggies!

Think About . . .

  • Activity and motion.
  • The weather and the seasons.
  • What are you eating?

Going on an Adventure

When was the last time you went on an adventure? To escape, wander and get lost. To get curious and explore. To release your inner kid and play, laugh and have fun!

Experiencing growth and gaining life experiences! Tuning into your creative being and tapping into your potential, talents and gifts. Learning about your interests and developing hobbies. Making those moments that you savor and cherish as life long memories!

Think About . . .

  • Your energies.
  • Sociability and community.
  • What excites you?

R & R

Making the time for some much needed R&R is good for your whole, well being too! To make time for yourself. To get a good, full nights rest. To wake up naturally with nothing scheduled!

It may play a part in your natural healing for better health and wellness! How you communicate and connect with yourself. How you interact and engage with yourself. It can be grounding and healing!

Think about . . .

  • Your comfort.
  • “Me” time.
  • What are you looking forward to?

My Top 5

For Health & Wealth

How do you benefit your whole being on a daily basis? Living a lifestyle that devotes to the whole being; mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The greatest gift we can give ourselves is health! This results in wealth and abundance in every thing we do each and every day.

#1 – Favorite Way To Be Active

  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Photographing

#2 – Favorite Place to Eat

  • My Own Kitchen
  • Farmers Market

I do love going out to eat to try new places and taste new eats and drinks. I also love being waited on, taking a night off from cooking and not being on the cleanup crew.

#3 – Favorite Treatment

  • Getting a massage every 4 weeks.

#4 – Favorite Green

  • Love me some greens!
  • Green spaces that provide a sense of community and to become one with my natural surroundings.
  • Gardening

#5 – Favorite Comfort(s)

  • Reading a good book.
  • Escaping and exploring.
  • Getting curious and learning.
  • Eating good (and of course healthy as possible) foods.
  • Being comfortable in my own skin by loving, caring and supporting my whole being.
  • Playing, laughing and having fun.
  • Health, wealth, happiness, and wellness.
  • Using my energies to do what is best for me and my whole being.
  • Getting my creative on.
  • Giving myself love, care and support by taking the time for my needs, craves, wants, desires, etc.
  • Loving, caring and supporting my greatest someones.
  • Sharing my talents and gifts with others, especially in being inspirational, giving motivation and being passionate.
  • Coming from a place of love and doing whatever it may be with a little heart.

Loving yourself comes from the inside! Building a solid foundation helps you to experience growth and gain experiences. Being passionate and doing what you love is so worth making the time to do more of it. That is a life of love and living it (more like conquering it) each and every day!

Please Share Your #1, Top 3 or Top 5 – Love to Hear What You Are Doing for Health and Happiness!

Non-Traditional

Meditation

I am a non-traditional meditator! I have little patience for sitting still. I meditate in the great outdoors and connecting with my surroundings! The ground beneath my feet. The sun upon my face. The wind breathing across my skin. The motion of movement and being active. That is mediation that works best for me!

It is good for my health and happiness as well as my wellness and well being! I feel the stress melting away and becoming more energized. I feel more productive and motivated. I feel calm, centered and balanced again!

The greatest gains for me are presence and mindfulness! I can quiet my whole being. I can get out of my head and unplug from technology. I can be present with me, myself and I!

Some of my best thinking is done in the great outdoors or sleeping! I think I have more “a-ha!” moments while sleeping. However, my creativity comes alive when I am out exploring and adventuring!

I become more observant when I am out in the great outdoors! I am alert and exploring my surroundings in detail. I am engaging my senses. I am more aware and present!

Strolling Along

Buddy Up!

Have you taken a break today? If not, grab a buddy and go for a walk!

There is nothing better than going for a walk and talking with someone you love and love to be with! Make it a daily practice. Communicate, interact and connect. Stretch and move!

Remember to leave your devices behind and really connect to the person walking side by side with you!

Here’s to Strolling Along!

A Healthy Lifestyle

What Does A

Healthy Lifestyle

Mean To You?

I am thinking about . . .

  • What I Eat (mindfulness, moderation, making good, healthy choices).
  • What I Do (motion, movement, activity, exercise).
  • What I Need To Release and Let Go Of (reducing the anxiety, pressure, stress, tension).
  • What Choices I Make (about health, fitness and wellness).

Practicing . . .

I am actively practicing to live a healthier lifestyle. It is a process of making gradual changes over time. It is a lesson of self; self confidence, self love, self respect, self worth. It is learning, growing and gaining experiences.

I am communicating, interacting and connecting with my whole being again. I am listening to my inner voice. I am following my heart and coming from a place of love. I am learning to believe and trust in myself.

Connecting . . .

I am discovering . . .

  • My Strong.
  • My Health and Happiness and Feeling Good.
  • My Love of Doing More of What I Love.
  • My Sense of Self In Being True To Who I Am.
  • My Sense of Humor.
  • My Goodness and Positiveness.

Discovering . . . (Photos by RSheridan)

I am inspired, motivated and energized in living a productive lifestyle.

Relax

Check This Out!

I recently read an article by Dr. James S. Gordon called A Doctor’s Top 5 Ways to Relax Naturally. Dr. Gordon is the founder and director of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) and author of Unstuck. All types of people feel “stuck” and it is not just depression, but anxiety, frustration, worry and stress-related too. From adults to even children. There is also the feeling of loneliness and not feeling the love due to being hurt and/or a lapse in or lack of trust.

There is a correlation between relaxation and meditation as well as nutrition and exercise.

Relaxing . . .

  1. Soft Belly Breathing
  2. Talking a Walk
  3. Perusing a Book Store
  4. Mindful Eating
  5. Thanking Nature

I was surprised to discover that I currently do all five.

#1 – Soft Belly Breathing

“It’s a simple way of quieting the stress and fight or flight responses, which are major contributors to anxiety, depression and chronic illness.”

I learned soft belly breathing through exercising and find it beneficial to do throughout the day too. I need a quiet place to go to breath though. Otherwise I cannot focus on my breathe and quiet my crazy mind. I find my thoughts wandering at times and either reign them in or just let them go.

Breathe slowly and deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth with your belly soft and relaxed.

I am not a fan of my anxious awkward being let alone the reactive one that tries to rear its ugly head at times. I need to pause and take a breathe in order to think instead of just being reactive. I communicate more effectively and make better decisions. I find myself considering the other person’s feelings and coming from a place of thoughtfulness and kindness.

Opening . . .

#2 – Taking a Walk

I do a good majority of sitting throughout the week for work and commuting. I need to move and walk and take the stairs multiple times a day. I need to get up to stretch and breathe. Moving just feels good after sitting and sometimes we sit for too long of a period of time.

Wandering . . .

#3 – Perusing a Bookstore

There is nothing better for me than perusing a bookstore and/or cooking/kitchen store! I can get lost as well as get my creative side going. I like to check out the new releases, cooking and travel sections. I like to check out the gadgets, table ware and linens. I can wander and peruse to my heart’s content!

Perusing . . .

#4 – Mindful Eating

My idea of mindful eating is taking the time to savor and enjoy what I am eating. I do the hoover method enough throughout the week. It is nice to slow down, sit down and enjoy good food and good company for an hour or so. I enjoy perusing the grocery store as well as taking the time to cook at home.

Savoring . . .

#5 – Thanking Nature

For me being out in nature is a stress reducer and a mood booster!

Nature also gives us abundance that we need to be thankful for! The farms. The food we eat and enjoy. The green spaces and sense of community. The fauna and flora as well as the light and the water.

What Is One Thing You Do For Your Whole Being? Love To Hear Your Thoughts, Please Share!

Taking A Time Out

To Do What You Want and

To Do What You Love To Do

Do you add play time to your day?

I like to schedule in my play time and leisure time throughout the week and the month! Be it 5 minutes to 15 minutes to 30 minutes during the week. Be it 30 minutes to 1 hour or longer on the weekends. I have put the guilt on the down low and do it for myself and my whole being. I am a better person for it and to be around!

There are so many FREE options available too! Hitting the trail to going to the park to hanging out in the great outdoors. Gathering and hanging out with family and friends. Taking the time to read, write, photograph, and just be creative. Just find a place to play, leisure and escape for a while!

Do you add movement and motion to your day?

I pretty much have to move around every 3o minutes to an hour or I become the tin man; need oil STAT! It takes work to get the whole being to work efficiently and effectively. It is about making better choices when it comes to eating, moving and being well. Instead of thinking about exercising think about playing and having fun!

Do you make every day the weekend?

I know this one is a stretch and even I struggle with it come Monday! I know for me it is more about reflecting on the past weekend or looking forward to the coming weekend that inspires, motivates and drives me. I like to let my week and weekend unfold and not schedule it to the Nth degree! It gives me freedom and adds some spontaneity to my week. It boosts my mood and makes me happy!

Do you escape to wander and get lost?

I am talking about . . .

  • Day dreaming, visioning and meditating.
  • Getting outside for a walk.
  • Taking a nap and dreaming a little dream.
  • Reading, writing and being creative.
  • Arm chair traveling and looking at photography.
  • Sleeping in or spending time at home.

I find it a great way to connect to my whole being! To nurture and nourish. To be curious and explore. I find it feeds and fuels my creativity and passions!

Do you release and let go throughout the day? Breathe in, Breathe Out!

I find it cleansing to release and let go throughout the day! I can connect with my breathe and start anew. It is about being mindful and aware as well as being grateful! It helps control and keep in check the emotions, the reactions and the attitude. Hold on to the good experiences and let the rest go!

Do you indulge? Within reason and moderation of course.

I am not talking just about eating, but doing something nice for yourself! I enjoy a  little indulgence now and then because it makes living my life a little better and even a little sweeter. We all know where restriction and deprivation gets us at times. Just a little pick me up in treating yourself every once in a while!

Have you laughed today? Hard and uncontrollable where you almost PYP – ha!

There is nothing better or more cleansing then a good laugh! The type of laughter that burns calories and has your stomach muscles feeling the burn. I like when you get the giggles and it pretty much lasts all day long. Just find something that makes you laugh throughout the day!

Here’s to Doing The Best For Your Whole Being and Finding What Works Best For You In Doing It! Love to Hear, Please Share!

Powering Through

Exercise Motivation

I do not always feel up to working out, but I make a commitment to myself to go at least two times a week no matter what! I really struggle on days where I am tired, in a foul mood or just had a negative, downer day. I use the motivation to go by telling myself I will feel much better after exercising and I do! I also find the motivation in putting on my work out clothes and my tennis shoes on. It is go time!

Getting Into Gear & Just Going . . .

I am constantly telling myself I can do this or that or at least give it a try! I grew up being active and pretty athletic. That helps when it comes to working out and exercising. I tell my crazy mind what I am doing and put my body into action!

I am learning that I am stronger than I think! I am creating that  foundation to build off of to get stronger and to develop my endurance over time. I am learning that there is a difference between my inner strength and my physical strength. I am discovering my strong and enjoying the process!

Discovering My STRONG!

I am learning that I have to continue to challenge my whole being! I need to stimulate my mind, engage my body and tune in from the inside out. It certainly helps me in all aspects of my life too! I use to think repeat and repeat. Now I think practice and repeat, which leads to challenge and results in change. I love seeing the results and gaining the rewards!

I am pushing my body and my whole being to new limits and actually like it! Challenging and different are good for me. I am okay with sweating now because I know I am working hard! I can do anything for at least 20 seconds when pushing my body, especially in doing something new. Just dig in and get it done already because then it will be over!

One Step At A Time  . . .

I am my biggest cheerleader and supporter! I motivate, inspire and encourage myself. Yes, I talk to myself when working out. Yes, I make a few noises when working out. Yes, I can laugh at myself and have a good time doing it too!

Nourishing Yourself

Fueling and Feeding

Your Whole Being

The greatest lesson I have learned through this process of creating a healthier lifestyle is to do what is best for me and my whole being! I cannot stress that enough because you are unique and you have your own version of what is healthy for you!

I am making myself a priority and it is important that I put my health, my well being and my fitness at the top of my list of things to do on a daily basis! I need to take time for myself and care for my needs. I am certainly a healthier and happier person when I do that. It motivates me to get out there and grab life to gain experiences!

One BIG World Out There!

I hold myself accountable when it comes to making better choices with my health, wellness and fitness! I am being aware and being mindful in the choices I do make! I enjoy eating whole foods, nutrient-rich foods, real foods, especially the seasonal offerings of fruits and veggies. I have embraced eating lean proteins three times a day and eating smaller portions frequently throughout the day. The BEST part is seeing my hard work pay off and my whole being loves the changes I am making too!

  • I am doing it and I am creating a healthier lifestyle.
  • I am nourishing me and my whole being.
  • I am fueling and feeding my body and it feels great.

Creating a Healthier Lifestyle . . . Making Better Choices . . . Eating Healthier . . .

Exercising . . . Toning . . . Strengthening . . .

I love having a partner that wants to get healthy with me and be active together! I stated in my vows to my partner in health, etc. I know that it is a shareable and doable commitment to each other. To be there for each other through thick, thin and everything in between!

  • I am learning to love my body and appreciate what it does for me in living my life.
  • I am finding that balance in exercising and discovering my strong again.
  • I am discovering what I love to do as well as what truly works best for me to stay active and be on the move.

Loving . . . Caring . . . Supporting . . .

I choose ME to be my BEST self! I am open and embrace every day as a new day with endless possibilities and opportunities for me to choose from. I choose to commit in creating the life I DESERVE!

  • I will be successful and celebrate life.
  • I will make mistakes, fail and fall down.

That is okay though!

I choose to love me, be kind to me and care for me! I choose to feel great and look great. I choose to forgive, let go, release, and move on again. I choose to learn and experience as well as grow and become!
