Happiness

Exercise It???

Have you heard of Will Jelbert and his book called The Happiness Animal? Healthy body = healthy eating and healthy exercise. Healthy happiness = healthy exercise. “How we exercise our spirit determines the strength of our happiness.”

In The Happiness Animal, you are introduced to the five muscles that can be exercised to make your “Happiness Animal” stronger. “What if you could exercise your happiness like you exercise your body?” Why not give it a go!

  1. Tolerance
  2. Kindness
  3. Honesty
  4. Awareness
  5. Courage

Talk about a revelation that just resonates with me!

I did not know I was working a happiness muscle in being curious. I am a questioner. Searching for answers. Seeking out and striving to learn, grow and experience!

I think we all question and ask ourselves.

  • Who Am I?
  • What Is My Purpose?
  • What Do I Want To Do?

I think we also tune into our emotions, feelings and thoughts.

Do you tune into your emotions, feelings and thoughts?

  • It is important to accept, own and respect your emotions and feelings.
  • It matters to have a voice and express yourself, especially sharing your thoughts, talents, stories, etc.
  • It is okay to be humble and vulnerable.
  • It is good to have humility.

We all need our tribe along with that sense of belonging and being part of a community. That rawness and realness in people who truly are connecting to their emotions, stories and reality. That empowerment to be who you really are from the inside out. That force and energy within you that powers you and has you in control. That strength of acceptance and humanness!

Putting Your BEST Foot Forward

When It Comes to Getting

Your Exercise On

There are 2 places I cannot go on an empty stomach; the grocery store and the gym! My hunger has me low on energy, cranky and most of all HUNGRY. I do not get a proper workout and then I am putting junk in my grocery cart. It is just SABOTAGE!

I say, “I love a good challenge”, but challenging myself when it comes to working out is completely on another playing field! I repeated the same cardio routine week in and week out. I either went mediocre with strength training or on interval overload! I either went light or heavy with weights. My body learned to adapt to that routine pretty quickly!

I could be on Myth Busters with this myth I kept telling myself! I thought the answer to all my problems was in working my core and ONLY MY CORE. I had mythed myself into believing that once my core was in top shape the rest of my body would follow suit! I had a laugh at myself on that one.

Working It Out

There was two other obstacles to overcome; breathing and posture! As long as I made it through the workout with minimal damage to my person I was doing good. I suffered my fair share of injuries as well as seeing those stars that gave me one heck of a workout headache and a hangover the next day. I truly feel better during my workout when I pay attention to my breathing and my posture!

I just needed to get the lead out of my arse and put my time and energy on exercises that burn more calories! I actually enjoy exercising and now I find my time working out enjoyable. I am so not going to make progress if I treat the gym environment like a giant couch! I have to continue pushing myself and challenging myself to make progress and see results.

The biggest lesson I have learned is to focus on myself when working out! I no longer watch someone else do an exercise and then start doing that same exercise. I have to do what works best for me and my body!

Remember to Keep Mixing It Up and Have FUN When It Comes To Working Out! Remember to Nurture and Nourish You and Your Body!

Sit Up Straight

Posture Matters!!!

I am dedicating this post to my personal trainer and all the hard work we have put in together!

I experienced a back injury. I have never worked with a personal trainer, so I did not know what to expect. I knew I would be working on strengthing my lower back and core. I have done so much more than that and I am getting stronger everyday!

I Am “DISCOVERING MY STRONG”!

EVERYTHING is connected! You know that song . . . the hip bone is connected to the . . . The best decision I made in my recovery process was transitioning from a physical therapist to a personal trainer! I am getting a total body workout and it feels pretty darn good too.

I am learning so much about POSTURE! In not having proper posture it can and will cause you pain. I am not the slouching and slumping type. I am gulity of being a desk jockey and not moving and stretching enough throughout my work day. I should not be all that amazed that in what I do to my body on a daily basis is done by me, myself and I!

My abs are coming back into shape again! I really thought my abs gave up and left for good there. I thought my upper body hitched a ride with my abs too! I am slowly finding those deep core muscles and learning to stregthen those muscles.

I am learning just how important alignment is and that balance and stability matters to everything you do! My pelvis is a key player in aligning my spine and lower limbs. I have been strengthing my outer thighs as well as my inner thighs to keep the hip and knee joints aligned to decrease discomfort or pain.

I am learning that the shoulders matter to posture and stability! I never would have thought about the shoulders as stabilizers to assist with posture. All those muscles need to be worked from the biggest and badest to the tiniest! Let me tell you working those tiny muscles is tough and not all that pain free either. I certainly sit up straighter now too!

NO (Good) Pain, NO Gain!

I still struggle when it comes to relaxing my shoulders and my neck! My shoulders love to creep up and my neck moves forward. I am pretty protective when it comes to my neck, head and brain and that adds to the tension at times. I so want to master this relaxation to help out my upper and lower spine! I know my back would love me for that too.

I never knew how IMPORTANT my wrists were! That tightness, tension and stress in my shoulders affects the shoulders, the arms and the wrists. I had some bad habits when it came to my wrists and lifting with my wrists. I am actually able to bear weight and lift things correctly without discomfort, weakness or pain now!

I am learning to break the bad forms I have created and that have become habit! I actually stop now when something does not feel right and figure out the right way to do it. Every workout session is practice to develop memory and build precision with movements. I am discovering a new normal when it comes to living and playing as well as staying active and exercising!

Working IT The RIGHT Way!

The Best Part for me is tuning into and listening to my body and my needs! I am taking care of my whole being and getting that total body workout that my body deserves!

Here’s to Sitting Up Straight & Doing What FEELS GOOD!!!

Exercising Taught Me

To Breathe and Connect With My Body

I do battle everyday with my rational and emotional selves! Both are competing to see who can race ahead somedays. I never really knew just how much I internalized until I started exercising! My shoulders go up, my fists clenched, and my breathing stops and starts.

Opening . . .

In some ways I am my greatest supporter and protector; however, at times that holds me back too! I am working on finding that balance though.

I am slowly learning to breathe better and deeper, especially breathing in through my nose and exhaling through my mouth. The one thing I still struggle with is making sure my exhale is longer than my inhale; deep breathing or belly breathing. In being able to deep breathe I can calm my mind and relax my body. Exercising has taught me to focus on my breathing and just knowing how to breathe properly helps me in general too!

Breathing . . .

I am gaining in so many ways by connecting to my body as well as my whole being! In learning how your body moves you can better connect to your body and yourself. I am able to tune in and listen to my body and my needs. I am amazed what I can do and what my body can do for me when I connect to it! I feel pretty good too by getting up and moving. I enjoy being an active person!

By exercising I can place my focus on the task at hand and engage in the activity and movement! I find my release when exercising. I am able to connect from within myself and project it outwards when exercising. I find my natural rhythm again and that gets me in sync with my whole being!
