Creating a Cozy Spot

Creating Comfort For You

How do you go about creating a cozy spot for you? Are you in the process of creating a cozy spot? or Do you already have one?

From clean and crisp to homey and stuff. From neutral to pops of color and everything in between. From symmetry to creative to everything in between. From calm to vibrancy.

From what you love and makes you feel good. From what you actually use. From the trends to making your own style. From what makes you happy and brings you joy.

For comfort and/or healing. For relaxation and rest. For release and to let go. For yourself to be.

Adding In the Comfort Essentials

How do you add in the comfort? What are your top essentials for comfort?

  • Music (i.e. music player, instrument, music box, etc.)
  • Softness (i.e. blankets, rugs, curtains, etc.)
  • Lighting (lamps, candles, natural and adjustable lighting, etc.)
  • Reading materials (books, magazines, journals, etc.)
  • Cushion (floor cushions, throw pillows, ottomans, etc.)
  • Bold Statements (think makes you happy and makes you feel good and gives you joy)
  • Fauna and Flora
  • Artistic and Creative (i.e. artwork, paint, pops of color, etc.)
  • Mirror and Metallic (adds depth)
  • Storage (clear up a bit of the clutter)
  • Texture (adds warmth along with depth)

Find your energy along with the space’s energy! Items that make your space livable and add that lived in feeling. Remember to switch up your space from time to time to keep if fresh and inviting!

I have a few cozy spots I gravitate to.

  • Being in the kitchen cooking and experimenting.
  • Curling up in my favorite cozy spot with a great mystery.
  • Adding the extras to my bike to make it a comfort ride for my whole being.

I love adding in . . .

  • My photographs throughout my home.
  • The creative and unique along with pops of color and metallics.
  • Pillows and blankets.
  • Good lighting and how it does your whole being good.

Manifesting Comfort

Feeling GOOD!

We all want to feel good! Each and every one of us has a different way to go about it though. You have to find what works best for you and your whole, well being. You have the power to control your mood as well as your attitude.

I am not saying we are going to have sunshiney days and live on cloud nine every day, but you can come pretty close if you choose how you want to feel.

Love Comfort

How do you spread more love to yourself as well as to others? Finding that natural balance and rhythm of giving and receiving. Communicating and connecting to yourself and others. Engaging your heart as well as your mind when it comes to love sweet love!

Love is such a guiding force in living one’s life! To share and celebrate more of what you love or what you have done. It is energizing and helps give you clarity in your purpose. It is elevating and helps give you inspiration to define your “whys” in what you need to get out there to live life!

You are the one that makes great things happen!

Music Comfort

Do you sing a little ditty in your head to make you happy? You know what resonates within you to connect to yourself on a deeper level. Especially when we need comfort, pleasure, happiness, etc. Those songs that you have on repeat to listen to again and again!

Activity Comfort

Do you have an activity that comforts you? Maybe you just need a break to play, laugh and have fun. Maybe you find release and comfort in physical activity. Find your inner kid along with your sense of humor and have some much needed play and fun time!

Think crazy cat videos, goats in pajamas, etc.!

Remember to keep the mind active too! Trying new things. Continuing to learn and develop. Keeping the mind active is challenging as well as rewarding! That feeling of I can do this. That feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. It is inspiring and motivating!

Creative Comfort

Remember to create your comfort!

Create and set healthy boundaries for yourself and your whole, well being! Helps you become more productive with your time and energy. Puts the drama and negativity on simmer. You will feel more energized and less drained in doing for yourself and your needs!

Tune into your intuition! It is like a self check to see what is working and what is not as well as what is serving you best and what is not. How do you really need to spend your time and energies?

Tap into your creative being! Engage your creative side (mind and heart) as well as surround yourself with creativity. Really stretch yourself and the possibilities are endless in being creative!

Home Comfort

How do you stay rooted?

I think about home. Finding that place that gives you calm, comfort and solace. Your favorite spot to just be and hang out!

The gathering and connecting. The eating and communicating. The grounding and comforting. The loving and supporting.

Home Sweet Home!

Five Senses Comfort

Remember to engage your five senses!

  • Music (hearing).
  • Fauna, flora or aromatherapy (smell).
  • Watching the sun rise or set (vision).
  • Taste (taking pleasure and enjoyment in what you eat).
  • Touch (feeling the ground beneath your feet).

There is nothing better for the being than soaking up some natural rays too! Think about the lighting in your home and work environments too.

R&R Comfort

Do you hit the snooze to have five extra minutes in bed? To meditate, to stretch, etc. Sometimes it helps you wake more naturally then just jumping out of bed once the alarms sounds.

  • Curling up with a good read.
  • Sitting back with a bowl of popcorn to watch a good movie.
  • Taking a cat nap.

Temp Comfort

Sometimes you want the heat and other times you want the cool! Spicy foods, hot yoga, etc. Ice coffee, air conditioning, etc. Have you ever found yourself curled in a blanket with the AC blasting – ha!

Creative Inspiration

Spark Your Creativity

You know that creative being is inside you, right! Most of us have a need to create. You know you want to color outside the lines and think outside the box!

How to get motivated and let the creative juices just flow?

Inspiration and motivation is two-fold with creativity. When we lack inspiration and motivation it may be a sign to get the creative juices flowing and get out of the normal routine. Then we need inspiration and motivation to be creative. It is all part of the creative process.

Where to Start!

  • Try something new.
  • Up for a Little Challenge – Try something you do not think you are very good at.
  • Get curious and explore lots of different things.
  • Learn, learn, learn lots of different things.
  • Journal and write.
  • Read and color.
  • Cook and bake.
  • Photography or painting.
  • A picture, a motivational quote or an inspirational story.
  • Get out into nature.
  • Be around other creative beings.
  • Play music and dance.
  • Meditating or letting your mind wander.

Another key piece of the creative process is to let the creativity go and let it evolve! Focus on the process at hand. Express your whole self. Just envision, innovate and create!

Love and enjoy the process of creating! Take pleasure and joy from creating and let it inspire and motivate your whole being. Be proud of what you create because it is an expression of you. Most of all do it because you love it!

Inspirational Forces

Be Inspired . . .

In my opinion Elizabeth Gilbert is an inspirational force to me! Her book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear just speaks volumes and on so many levels to my whole being. Creating and living a creative life!

“Creative Forces of Enchantment.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

To Be Curious

I still embrace my curiosity as an adult!

I like the phrase “creative” living! It applies to each and everyone of us. We all have gifts, talents and passions that we need to share with ourselves as well as other people!

The fun part is discovering what you love and what gives you passion and purpose in living your life! Tuning into your whole being and tapping into what you love, makes you happy and brings you joy. I am practicing to go after what I love most! It inspires, motivates and energizes my whole being. I am learning to come from a place of love by following my heart and doing more of what I love to do!

A big part of that process is facing head on what I fear most! There is nothing wrong in being fearful, however; if it stops you from living your life then that is not a good place to be. Taking a hard look at your values and beliefs as well as your attitudes and habits. You have to learn how to process and work through that fear in order to keep moving forward in creating and living your life!

The relationship between fear and creativity: “Fear is a desolate boneyard where our dreams go to desiccate in the hot sun.” ~Elizabeth Gilbert

There needs to be that balance that works best for you and your whole being! Fear can be healthy in that it protects you from very real dangers. Every one of use is hardwired with a feeling of fear and sensing that fear to be good or bad. You have to create space and make boundaries to guide you in a safe and protected manner!

Discovering . . .

To Be Free

I know the greatest lesson I have given myself and my whole being lately is practicing mindfulness! Just being in the present moment. I experience more passion and creativity as well as joy and happiness by being in that moment. That race to be all and do it all is draining and exhausting and really gets me nowhere with nothing gained!

It is about feeling inspired and motivated to explore, create and pursue what you want and need in creating and living your life! However, what matters is going for it and doing it! To be open to the possibilities. To be passionate to create.

Being inspired makes you open and motivated and energized to do more of what you love! To be curious to explore and try new things. To imagine and create. To communicate, interact, engage, and connect to your whole being. It can be a freeing process!

Just unleash your creative side and let it out to play!

Practicing . . .

To Be Brave

Here is the BIGGEST Revelation that I have had – Everything is Connected! There is meaning. There is purpose. There is conviction. Those unconnected events are connected in so many ways and on so many levels when it comes to creating and living our lives!

The decisions and choices we make or do not make. Being stuck and getting unstuck.

The chances and the risks we take or do not take. Learning, growing and experiencing.

The way we respond and react. Changing and transitioning. Transforming and being true to who you are.

Everything is part of a bigger plan and some things come back around! Practicing, testing, learning. Developing, growing, experiencing. Every experience matters on some level in creating and living your life!

Doing the things that scare you.

Being in the moment making those life memories.

Being humble as well as vulnerable to allow yourself to just go there, go for it and do it.

Taking That 1st Step . . .

To Be Creative

I practice cultivating creativity by making time to play, explore and adventure! Being able to use my imagination. Being able to express myself on many levels. By having creative outlets I am more effective and efficient in other areas of my life!

Being creative is about immersing myself in the process and enjoying being in that creative zone and flow of creative energy! It lets me stretch myself and try new things. It lets me explore my potential, gives me purpose and makes me feel good. Being creative is very much a part of my whole being!

Being creative is about being aware of my surroundings and tapping into my senses! Paying attention and taking notice. Thinking outside of the box and coloring outside of the lines. That awareness creates inspiration and sparks creativity!

Creativity is like breathing at least for me! I see the good and the positive. I wish, hope and dream. I find life more exciting!

The Trick Pony

Hang On!

“Lofty career goals are not enough to inspire you today; what you need is some good old-fashioned magic. In fact, just setting the bar higher can have a chilling effect on your creativity now. If you’re worried about missing your mark, you’re not likely to take as many risks to express your imagination. Nevertheless, the well-traveled path isn’t for you now; reach for the sky, but keep your faith or you might fall off your unicorn.” ~ My Horoscope from May 6, 2015

A Shot of Energy

What Gives You a Boost Of Energy?

There are days I swear my arse is 2 inches from the floor because I am just dragging and super low on energy! The Coffee IV drip is not working. The caffeine jolt and the sugar high are no longer cutting it. I am looking for anything and everything that will just give me a boost of energy!

Good Fuel for the Body

I am not looking for that boost of energy that has me crashing in a few hours though either! No thanks to the surge, crash and burn!

My Top 5

  1. Being With My Greatest Someone and Someones.
  2. Taking Time For Myself.
  3. Traveling, Adventuring and Exploring.
  4. Getting Outdoors.
  5. Reading and Writing.

How Do You Maintain and/or Sustain Your Energy Throughout The Day?

I have made a change in my lifestyle over the past three years to create a healthier way of living! I am finding that balance and that level of activeness that works best for me. This includes connecting better with myself, my needs and my emotions, feelings and thoughts. I want to explore and experience more, which inspires, motivates and energizes me even more!

For me it is about . . .

  • Being more, doing less.
  • Finding that work/life balance.
  • Getting my 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night.
  • Finding that moderation that works best for me.
  • Nurturing and nourishing myself in a healthy way.

I have to get my 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night or I am just cranky and pretty much worthless! I am in a better mood when I nurture and nourish myself, my needs and my whole being. I am a better person when I can escape the 8 to 5 and have a little fun and play time. The greatest lesson I have learned is to do what works best for me!

Climbing . . . Exploring . . . Living the GOOD Life!

Breaking FREE!!!

What Do You Struggle With?

My Top 3 Struggles

  1. Disruptions
  2. Distractions
  3. Gratification (NOW!, not later on)

These 3 are an energy drainer and a time sucker! I am on the fast track to burn out some days, weeks or even months.

Beeing In the Simpler Life

For me it is about . . .

  • Hydration and craving water elements.
  • Breaks and learning to breathe. Talk about a great energy booster!
  • Music and moving and dancing. Talk about a great stress reliever!
  • Natural light and soaking it in (in a healthy way of course). Talk about a mood lifter!
  • Green and the many benefits. Talk about a pick me up!
  • Citrus and its scent boosting powers.
  • Trail mix – nuts, seeds, berries, and dark chocolate. Yes, please!
  • Stand up and sit less.
  • Surround sound system of the good and the positve!

Simply I just need a shot of inspiration and a spark of creativity to give me a boost of energy! Especially of the good and the positive. Having the support of your greatest someone(s) helps too!

A Creative Medium

The Art of Creation

I love being able to create something that is unique and special to me!

Finding A Creative Medium

A Creative Medium can be Anything!

  • What Do You Love?
  • What Do You Create?
  • What Sparks and Ignites Your Creativity?

I found my creative medium by consistently going back to the #1 and #2 things I loved to do; writing and photography! I was really big into vision boards from 13 to 17 years of age and another consistent theme was travel in those vision boards. I love that I can now combine my love of writing and photography with travel in blogging!

Creating Space

Where Do You Feel Inspired?

I could say, “I found my inner Harold and more than one color stick to create with.”!

I love living in a world that is one BIG canvas to learn and to grow from as well as gain life experiences! The creative possibilities and opportunities are endless. There is so many ways to share the creativity too. Inspiration is EVERYWHERE and you never know when it will call to you, so be ready!

I am working on creating that space I need to write and photograph! I want a corkboard to create a vision board. I want to frame my photography. I want to take that inspiration I have in boxes and albums and display it. I want to decorate my creative space!

There Are NO Rules

How Do You Express Yourself?

I love to create and compose a great story, especially a great story with pictures! As a writer I like to brain storm and brain dump as well as go in tangents of run off and fragmented sentences. As a photographer I look for light, symmetry/asymmetry and the unexpected. As an adventurer I like to travel to new places and revisit places I have been as well as explore to my heart’s content. I know I need to ESCAPE from reality when my creativity is blocked!

(Photos by RSheridan)

A CAN Do!

Everyone of us CAN be creative! You just have to try new things until you find the one or few things that you are passionate about in creating. It may take patience and it may take practice, but it is so worth it when you find that inspiration, creativity or passion. Just START!

I AM A . . .

  1. I am a writer.
  2. I am a photographer.
  3. I am an adventurer who loves to travel and explore.

I AM A . . . Please Share, Love to Hear About Your Creative Medium!

Express Yourself

Go on a Creative Streak!

I think of the movie Billy Elliot when I need a little motivation to express my creativity. I love how the music just makes Billy want to move and most of all DANCE! I bet Billy Elliot the Musical would get your feet tapping. Imagine going through life DANCING!

I love the struggle in Billy to do what normal 11-year-olds should be doing and him wanting to just dance. Plus he is also growing up in a time of turmoil and change in his life and in himself. He has the hope to become a professional ballet dancer. He is just INSPIRED to live life no matter what!

I love the final scene in the movie where Billy takes to the stage as the lead dancer in Swan Lake. Just AMAZING!!! You just feel the inspiration and motivation as well as the expression and creativity. It just MOVES you!

What gets you motivated and inspired to go on a creative streak? I am motivated and inspired in 3 ways, which are music, water and light. Those three things just speak to me and inspire me! I enjoy seeing the world in color and not just black and white with shades of gray.

“Bird” Music

Water

Light (Photos by RSheridan)

How do you express your creativity? I love to write and do photography. It is like living life in another language to express yourself! Just feeding those hope, dreams and passions in your life.

Every Day is a Gift, so Express Yourself & DANCE to Your Heart’s Content!!!
