Hanging On

For the Ride

This quote reminds me of the cat poster where the cat is hanging from the branch with the saying, “Hang In There”!

Hang on to your hat. Hang on to your hope.

And wind the clock, for tomorrow is another day. ~E.B. White

I love the writing of E.B. White! Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little were favorite reads growing up. I enjoyed reading about the adventures Stuart would get up to or more like in to, especially with Snowbell the cat. I loved the friendship between Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the barn spider in Charlotte’s Web. Charlotte’s Web was a unique as well as sad story to me as a child and I did not fully understand it until I was older. Adventuring is Better with Friends or More Like Partners In Crime – ha!

A Mindful Escape

Clearing the Mind

Cleansing the Spirit

Do you have those mornings where you just cannot get started? Do you have those days where you feel discombobulated and nothing goes right? Do you have those nights where you cannot shut down and get a restful night of sleep?

You are on OVER everything and anything! You are so wound up that you feel you are ready to snap. You are ready to binge out or zone out. You are numb and bored. You are ready to laugh or cry or insert multiple emotions at once!

You need a much needed mindful escape! To reboot, to restart and to recharge. To rid yourself of all the “de” words that keep popping up in your head. To find that person even you want to be around again!

My Top 3 Escapes

  1. I escape by traveling, adventuring or exploring.
  2. I escape to nature and the great outdoors.
  3. I escape within myself to reconnect.

Practice self love, compassion and kindness by taking care of your needs. Communicate with yourself and ask what you need. You are so worth it to give back to yourself!

Practice listening to your inner voice, following your heart and trusting your instincts. Connect with your breathe to feel energized and motivated. Interact and engage yourself, especially in playing and having fun!

Practice releasing and letting go of what no longer serves you. By turning inward you reconnect with your whole being. You start clearing, cleaning and cleansing the “stuff” that just needs to GO!

Remember to take time for yourself, especially to do what you love!

In My Sights

Just BEING More!

I spend too much time asking questions and lose my focus, especially the impossible to answer ones!

  • What About What?
  • Why The Why?

Here’s to questioning and thinking less and just being! Worrying and stressing does not make a positive and productive being. Getting out of your own head as well as getting out of your own way. Stop going in circles and get off the wheel!

Getting OFF the Wheel!

Slowing down the pace helps you find your calmer as well as saner being! You can communicate the love, kindness and caring to yourself again. You can connect to your breathe and find balance again. You can interact with your whole being from the inside out!

Discover what speaks to you in finding peace, especially inner peace! Doing what you love. Becoming one with nature. Being creative and playful!

Remember to shift out of auto pilot and into a lower gear!

Open Road and Shifting Gears . . .

Have FUN! Be curious and explore. Find that positive energy and inspiring pulse. Discover your happy and what works best for you!

Project and promote what you want to be in your life! Dream and create. Use your imagination. Be open to ALL possibilities!

Engage ALL your senses!

Play Time = FUN! Time

Sometimes we are way too focused on the what, the why, the how, the where, etc!

Take pleasure in being more! Focus on the task at hand and be in that moment. Do what you love to do and continue to do more of it! Focus on the joy, the love and the happiness it brings you.

Remember the “why” and go for “what” you want and need as well as dream and desire!

Quality vs. Quantity. Abundance vs. Comfort.

Place BEING More In Your Sights Today and BE In The Moment Today – Enjoy!

I have put the pressure on the down low lately! To have and do more. It is exhausting and it feels like I am going backwards instead of forwards in my practice and progress! That pushing and thinking the harder I push the better off I will be. NOT!

I made the decision to stop and slow down for a change of pace! Discovering calm and balance and freedom. Discovering inspiration and motivation and passion. Talk about finding YOU again by going within yourself!

A Little Stopping and Slowing Down (S&S)

I was OVER the OVER Everything and Anything!

I am nurturing and nourishing my whole being! What do I need and giving it to myself. What is no longer serving me and letting it go. I am a loving and caring being. I am healthier and happier. I am reclaiming myself and discovering a personal freedom in stopping, slowing down, releasing, and just letting go!

I am learning, growing and experiencing! Mistakes and failures are learning opportunities. Weaknesses into strengths. I will embrace and practice to progress!

Being . . . Caring . . . Loving . . .

To love yourself is not to be selfish.

If the inside is nurtured, the outside will flourish. ~Unknown

I am listening to my body, following my heart and trusting my gut! Tuning into my intuitions. Tapping into my gifts and talents. I am choosing to come from a place of love!

I am where I need to be on my journey in living my life! There is no map and no directions. There is no right or wrong or even perfect. I am doing what I love and what feels right to me!

I am reconsidering my commitments and learning to say no more! I want to be in the present moment doing what I want to be doing. I need to serve myself first so I can be there to help others. I am giving up to grow and gain in so many other ways!

Happy Exploring and Becoming One With Nature!

I Am

Who I Am!

I recently read an article by Elyssa Jakim and it resonated so LOUDLY with me! Making peace and reclaiming yourself and the world you live in. Breaking down boundaries to reconnect with yourself and who you are. Just Being You!

“So let’s get weird, let’s get big,

let’s love without boundaries, let’s defy the odds

and be vulnerable. Let’s take up our space.

We deserve it. We’re worth it.” ~Elyssa Jakim

I was thinking about the following while reading the article.

Releasing and Reclaiming . . .

  • What do I need to release and let go of in my life?
  • What do I want to reclaim in living my life?
  • Protection . . . Permissions . . . What am I holding back on?

Living and Loving . . .

  • Life is messy as well as can be simple.
  • Does love come naturally or not?
  • Emotions, space, worthiness, and most of all love and being loved.

Asking and Questioning . . .

  • Just the simple asking what I need as well as what others need.
  • That inner dialogue with your self. That inner critic, negative nelly, debbie downer, grumpy gus, etc. that rears its ugly head at times versus listening to and following your instincts and intuition.
  • There is no normal, right?!? I am who I am!

I tend to ask myself one question now, “Do I care or do I not care about xyz?” I either take care of it or move on. That self confidence to be self aware. To take charge and make the best decision!

Doing the Shuffle

Shuffleboard That Is!

St. Petersburg Shuffle Board Club. 559 Mirror Lake Drive North. A great sense of community with people of all ages playing! Family-friendly night of FUN.

The St. Pete Shuffle happens on Fridays from 7 to 11 p.m.! A St. Petersburg tradition since 2005. FREE, first come first served and weather permitting.

This is the hip and happening place to be on a Friday Night! Plus it makes a great date night activity too. I have never seen so many shuffleboard courts in one place!

I enjoyed trying it! We asked a volunteer to help us get set up on a court and show us how to play. Playing it is a whole new game once you have mastered the rules and scoring!

  • Tangs are the cues to push the biscuits (aka weighted discs), which sends the biscuits gliding down a narrow and elongated court.
  • There is one tang (cue) for each player.
  • There are 8 biscuits (discs); 4 yellow and 4 black.
  • The purpose is getting the biscuits to come to a rest within the triangular marked scoring area at the far end of the court.
  • NEVER step on the court. Use the walkways along the court.
  • The game is played in matches of 4, 6 or 8 frames (a frame is both players or teams taking their turns. OR There is also the 75-point-match in which the player that reaches 75 points first is the winner.
  • The competitive nature of shuffleboard is in deflecting the opposition’s biscuits out of zones with a positive value as well as increasing your own points by landing biscuits into areas of high point value.
  • The biscuit cannot touch any part of the borders of the triangle. This is a loss of 5 points.
  • The top of the triangle is worth 10 points with the second section of the triangle worth 8 points with the third section of the triangle worth 7 points. The bottom of the triangle is a minus 10 points.

The St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

A Shuffleboard Court is 52 feet over all in length, 39 feet from baseline to baseline and 6 feet wide. Those dimensions were standardized in 1928 when the four-year-old club realized that it was time to end the confusion of rules that varied from club to club across Florida. A club committee worked out a standardized set of rules that governed not only the play of the game but the specifications of disks and cues, and the dimensions of the court.

Interesting Fact:  The center line running through the scoring triangles became informally known as Central Avenue, named for St. Petersburg’s main street.

Shuffleboard arrived in St. Petersburg in 1923. In 1924 the St. Petersburg Mirror Lake Park Shuffleboard Club began with two shuffleboard courts in Mirror Lake Park.

In 1927 the first clubhouse was built.  By 1929 the club had 2,588 members. The clubhouse was expanded in 1931. The membership roster in 1931 listed people from 41 states and two foreign countries; Canada and Scotland. In 1932 the club changed its name to the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club. In 1937 another building was added to accommodate the bridge club and social gatherings. In 1938 a new clubhouse opened for the club. The club reached 5000 members in 1944.

In 1994 the city’s historic preservation office designated the club, its buildings and courts a historic landmark.

Club membership was down to 35 members ten years ago from 6,000 members.

In 2005 a group of young artists, known as the The Artillery, took up the game and joined forces with preservationists to host Friday night games. The public was invited to play for free on Friday nights. Today the club has hundreds of members by introducing the game to a new generation.

I felt like I stepped back into time to the 1920’s! The strings of white lights dangling over a set of courts. Taking that first step into the club house to get some tangs and biscuits. Walking to the court for the first time with a volunteer helping us out and showing us the ropes. The green benches and chalkboards at each court. There is even a grandstand!

I am all for adventuring, especially when it is free and I can bring my own cooler! It is quite the workout too. I was sore the next day in finding new muscles while trying/playing shuffleboard!

Beer School

Brewing Beer

We went to Beer Camp and now we have been to Beer School to learn how to brew beer! I enjoy tasting craft beers and have wanted to get more hands on with the process. Talk about a FUN Experience! I cannot wait to do it again and soon.

The Brewing Process:

  • Brewing the Beer.
  • Cooling and Fermenting.
  • Priming and Bottling.
  • Conditioning and Aging.
  • The BEST Part of the Process – Tasting and Drinking!

Brewing . . .

Brewing . . .

Cooling and Fermenting

The hot brew (aka the wort) is cooled to room temperature and transferred to a fermenter. Once the mixture drops to room temperature, yeast is added to start the fermentation process. The key part of this process is cleanliness and sanitation since the wort can be easily infected by bacteria in this state.

Cooling the Brew

Adding of the Yeast Once Brew is Cooled

Priming and Bottling

Beer Here!

The airlock container used to keep the fermenter sealed is opened after 1 to 2 weeks of fermentation. Again cleanliness and sanitation is key in the bottling process.

Not So Pretty

Priming sugars are mixed with the beer before bottling. I missed this process because I was busy sanitizing bottles.

Much Better – Amber Liquid!

Bottling Beer

Filling One Bottle At A Time . . .

I had my hands full of bottle caps, so was not able to capture that part of the process. The bottle caps are kept in sanitizer. So wet hands and cameras do not mix well together.

Conditioning and Aging

Bottles of Goodness (Photos by RSheridan)

The bottled beer will be stored in a dry, dark space to age for about 2 weeks. You do not want to introduce the bottled beer to sunlight or light during the aging process. During the aging process the yeast will ferment with the priming sugar to create carbon dioxide. Goodbye! Flat Beer and Hello! Carbonated Beer! Also, sediments and proteins will drop out of the beer during aging to enhance the flavor of the beer.

Tasting and Drinking

Pop a few bottles in the fridge and get ready to taste and enjoy! I will follow up with a post on the taste test part of the process. So stay tuned!

Cheers! Prost/Zum wohl! Cin cin! Slainte!
