Geyser Basin Area
The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest geyser basin in the park. I DO NOT recommend an afternoon exploration when it is hitting the high 80s and low 90s in this area; been there done that!

Steamboat Geyser (Photos by RSheridan)
Interesting Fact: Steamboat Geyser is the tallest active geyser in the world. Steamboat Geyser erupts over 300 feet into the air.
Take in the Ranger-led talk at Steamboat Geyser to learn more about Steamboat Geyser.

Colorful
Emerald Spring (Photos by RSheridan)
The color of Emerald Spring is created by the sunlight filtering through the water. Here’s the kicker though! The color lures you in, then you feel the heat coming off the spring and then WHAM! nasty sulpher stink (makes you want to gag and run away).

I loved this! Thank you for sharing such great photos. I loved all of the geothermal activity that I saw when I visited Yellowstone! It is so amazing what is happening just beneath the surface of the earth… It really makes you appreciate how powerful nature is all on it’s own… No storm is needed to remind you of that when you are in such a place. 🙂
