Shore Acres State Park in Oregon along the coast is a must see. Check out Simpson Beach and the formal garden which includes an oriental style pond and not one but two beautiful rose gardens. I love taking pictures of roses. When we were here it was windy so layering is key and there is an observation shelter available. The sunsets were well worth the wait – gorgeous and magnificent. You feel like you are on the edge of the world as the sun sets.

Another park in this area is Cape Arago State Park and Cape Arago Lighthouse. We went on a “Lighthouse Frenzy” while visiting this area. There is Cape Blanco, Umpqua, Coquille, and Heceta Head. We visited Cape Blanco in the fog, Umpqua among the trees, Coquille in the calm of the river, and Heceta Head from the Sea Lion Caves.
I felt the Oregon Coast was a little more rugged in places with beautiful views to catch a sunrise or a sunset. My favorite place on our visit was Shore Acres and on a whim decided to check out Sea Lion Caves where you definitely see a sea lion or too (it is worth the trip down the elevator to the sea cave – great view of Heceta Head Lighthouse from the cave).
