Gaining On You!
I have thought about doing this series for a while now. Here is the premise behind this series and basically in a nutshell it is learning about writing from the bloggers who write on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. This will be a 4 part series.
How To Gain An Audience
At first I thought 1) I can do this and then 2) is anyone out there and 3) if there is are they reading what I write. I am pretty stubborn, so if I become discouraged or frustrated it just motivates me even more to keep at this whole blogging thing. I really found a passion again with blogging and being able to write creatively. I take the time now to feed that passion and love creative writing.
The key for me in gaining an audience was to become a little more personal by sharing more of myself with my readers and that was tough for me! I thought being the Wizard behind CravesAdventure would work best for me and it really did not. Another blogger encouraged me to really show my personal side. Thanks Erin!
What I have learned:
- Start reading other people’s blogs (Google Blog Search, WordPress, Internet Search on Specific Blogs, etc.)
- Comment on other people’s blogs, start building a connection
- Subscribe to other people’s blogs, start with a few and go from there
- Utilize Social Media Applications to Get Your Blog Out There (connect your blog posts with Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Share and share some much, start with baby steps and go from thereĀ (blog content, interests, etc.)

I struggle with getting personal, too. And that’s because of my journalism background. I typically approach my posts from a journalistic perspective which means it takes effort for me to share an opinion, a thought. So my Minnesota Prairie Roots blog ends up being a mix of journalism style writing and personal pieces. It seems to work.
And I agree that reading other blogger’s work, interacting and connecting is important in building readership. I can honestly say that I’ve formed some wonderful friendships through this blogging process as well as earned some income from the sale of photos discovered on my blog.

You are so right! Great suggestions, Renee. I would add that attractive media like photos and video as well as a lot of metatags both draw people too. Keep up the good work! This is a great series.

Agreed on all counts! The thing I have learned is that blogging is that I have to have a constant presence. Whether its writing blogs, reading blogs, commenting on blogs, or updating my blog site format, I’m always busy with something blog related in order to maintain my audience. But it’s great fun and well worth it! Great post
Have a nice weekend!

It is said that writing, if even a sentence a day, can be fruitful in inspiring one and moving motivation along further more each day.
It is difficult to get an audience to notice you right off, but the sweet thing about blogging is that most often you begin to quickly see that there are others who are experiencing what you have or who are just curious.
Keep it up and don’t stop!!!

My husband would say I am too personal on my blog, but for me, that is part of the fun and the challenge! It is a great suggestion!

I love reading your blog posts because of the personal aspect:) There is a fine line between being personal and oversharing (TMI), but we are humans and most of us have the same things happen to us – better to laugh at ourselves than cry at times – ha!

I’ve to make mine a little more personal too but that’s hard to do, especially because all I’m usually doing is writing and that’s not very exciting!

I find it hard to get personal too. Apart from the occasional rant now & then
But media does help…a lot. I find some of my better written posts don’t fare quite as well as a pure photo essay or challenge, for example!
